![]() | A Distinguished Gentleman The Brothers of Omega Phi Kappa refer to themselves as “Distinguished Gentlemen.” This is a term which is of great importance throughout the entire organization and is even placed upon our national shield. Men whom wish to seek membership in Omega Phi Kappa must understand what it means to be a “Distinguished Gentleman.” ![]()
The Ideals of an OPK Brother and of a Distinguished Gentleman 1. Maturity and Sophistication: One must strive to develop his ability to handle himself and his situation in a thoughtful and pragmatic manner at all times. This includes the ability to treat ALL PEOPLE with respect and dignity at all times.
2. Self-Thought: A member must be independent of others and think for himself. He should also develop a keen eye and be able to weed out the truth from fallacy and analyze everything before he makes a definite commitment and choice.
3. Development of Potential Talents: A member must develop his talent and the talents of the group to their fullest abilities.
4. A Sense of Brotherhood: It is necessary to develop unselfish values. A member must learn to think of other group members as brothers in his struggle and this will form the foundation of brotherhood in the larger community.
5. Involvement : In addition to developing one’s talents and sophistication, a member must get involved in the problems of his community. He must do this in order to expand awareness of his surroundings. 6. Commitment to Service: A member must understand that he is to be a servant of the people. He will have to make a commitment to the people and understand that many times a commitment means sacrifice.
